Season 1, Episode 7 -
Looking over a hillside, two riders stare intently at the Sherman Ranch. They are desperate for fresh mounts, so they steal two horses from the corral below. Jess and Slim arrive just as the pair is escaping. A gunfight ensues. One of the men grabs a saddlebag, drops it into a well, then continues firing. Shortly, Jess and Slim outgun them. When Slim asks the captured men their names, Jess immediately recognizes Captain Sam Prado’s name. Jess says that Prado robbed an army payroll and killed 3 men. Jess and Slim turn the outlaws in.
A trial is held at the saloon, where Slim and Jess are both key witnesses. After the trial, the townspeople await the verdict. Soon the pair are brought out. Suddenly, a screaming, man darts from the crowd. He runs up to Prado as if to attack him, but instead hands off a derringer to him. The man is Finch, a member of Prado’s gang.
The waiting townspeople, along with Jess, Slim, Andy and Jonesy, file into the makeshift courtroom. Prado quickly aims the hidden gun at the sheriff, as he and members of his gang take over. Prado orders Jess and Slim, tied up and taken away.
The gang arrives at the Strome ranch to buy fresh horses. Soon after, Prado orders Slim to go to Sweetwater to bring back the beautiful dancer Lita Ray. Prado gives Slim 12 hours to bring her to him or Prado will kill Jess.
Back in Sweetwater, Slim arrives at the saloon just as Lita begins her dance show. After the show, Slim enters Lita’s room. He tells her that he was sent by Prado to bring her back, but she wants nothing to do with Prado. Knowing Jess’s life is at stake, Slim takes her by force.
On the way back, Slim and Lita stop for water. Because of Slim’s kindness, she starts to see Slim differently. Suddenly, Finch appears. Prado wants to make sure Lita gets back to him. Slim and Finch fight, with Finch soon on the losing end. Slim gives Finch a message for Prado: Meet at the Sherman Ranch. He can have Lita when he shows up with Jess.
When Slim and Lita arrive at the ranch, Slim sends Andy into Laramie to bring the sheriff. Lita and Slim await Prado in the barn, where a colt has just been born. Again, she is able to see the good man that Slim is. Soon after, Slim reaches into a cupboard that holds a six gun, a rifle and a derringer. He loads the six-
Prado and his gang reach the ranch. Slim demands that Jess be released, and only thinking of Lita, Prado complies. Immediately, Prado demands Lita. Slim refuses, and in response, Prado says he’ll burn the ranch down if Lita isn’t out in 5 seconds. Lita sees the pain on Slim’s face as he contemplates losing his ranch. Suddenly, she grabs the derringer from the cupboard and runs outside. “I’ll go with you,” she calls. As this unfolds, Finch asks Prado where the money is. After Prado tells him, Finch finds the money and starts to leave. Lita walks towards Prado. She pulls out the derringer. Prado starts to pull his gun but hesitates. Lita fires! Seeing Prado go down, the gang tries to leave. Slim and Jess fire after them.
Just then, the sheriff and posse arrive and pursue the fleeing gang members. Jess and Slim retrieve the stolen payroll money.
Soon after, after giving Slim a gentle kiss, Lita leaves on a stagecoach back to Sweetwater.
